MLK Jr Day & Mildred Fay Jefferson

Dear Christian Sisters,

On this Martin Luther King, Jr Day, let’s remember Dr. Mildred Fay Jefferson (1927-2010), a pro-life advocate.

Photo of Dr. Mildred Fay Jefferson speakingDr. Jefferson helped to found the National Right to Life Committee (NRLC) and served the Committee in several roles, including President from 1975 to 1978.

Dr. Jefferson was a well-known pro-life speaker in the 1970s. In 1972 through one of her appearances on TV, she convinced then California Governor Ronald Reagan to switch from pro-choice to pro-life.

In addition to her pro-life advocacy work, Dr. Jefferson was both the first black woman to graduate from Harvard Medical School and the first woman to graduate in surgery from the same school.

“I am at once a physician, a citizen, and a woman, and I am not willing to stand aside and allow the concept of expendable human lives to turn this great land of ours into just another exclusive reservation where only the perfect, the privileged, and the planned have the tight to live.”

Listen to her speak in this video tribute to her life by the NRLC.

In Christ,

Cheryl

I am an outspoken Christian, just telling it like it is. And I have a mission. My mission is to change the conversation about abortion. Perhaps as a result, Christians will think and talk differently about abortion and then accomplish the Great Commission one hurting woman—and man—at a time. Matt 28:19 AND 20
