Day 16: Pray Against Hollywood’s Pressure

Dear Christian Sisters and Brothers,

Although I will not pit one political party over another, I will advocate for life in the political arena.

My book is not political. Read the one-and-a-half page introduction for yourself.

Nevertheless, we need to pray for pro-life legislation. Hollywood celebrities are threatening to boycott the state of Georgia if Gov Brian Kemp signs the House Bill 481, The Living Infants Fairness and Equality (L.I.F.E.) Act.

If you didn’t know already, many production companies are located and shoot in Georgia. We used to live in one of those towns, Senoia, which boasts such lovely projects as The Walking Dead and “Fried Green Tomatoes.”

When we moved from there, another production company was moving into the nearby town of Fayetteville. And I’m sure there are other companies as well.

Dear Heavenly Father,

We lift to you the state of Georgia. We praise You that Georgia’s heartbeat bill is ready for Gov. Brian Kemp to sign.

Thank You for loving life. Thank You for loving women so much that You do not want the pain of abortion for them. Lord, shield women in the state of Georgia from making the same mistake that I did.

Lord, thank You for giving Gov. Kemp the courage to love You more than he fears loss of revenue.

May You be glorified in the name of Jesus.

Amen!

In Christ,

Cheryl

Grandmothers: 40 Days of Prayer Day 14

Dear Christian Sisters and Brothers,

Let us continue to pray for the influencers. Today, let us concentrate on the Grandmothers—the mothers of the women who have a crisis pregnancy—are the #3 influence on a woman’s “choice.”

Father, Abba,

We cry out to You for all mothers, who have a great privilege and responsibility to raise Godly children.

We beg of You to pour out Your blessings on women, that they would feel Your love and attribute it to You. That they would praise Your name and trust in You.

The evil one is crafty. He’s a liar. He has convinced women that You and Your Son Jesus are against women when in fact Your Bible shows that Jesus treated women with love and care far over an above societal expectations.

Today, Christianity reveres women far more than other “religions.” I put “religions” in quotes because for me Christianity is not about the rules of religion but instead of the loving relationship I have with Christ.

I praise You, Lord that You love us so much that You want us to be close to You, to choose to be close to You. Open our hearts, Lord, to Your great love.

Lord, the fact that grandmothers, the mothers of women in a crisis pregnancy, support and even pressure their daughters to abort just shows how pervasive the lie of Roe v Wade is.

Everyone who turns 64 this year has known Roe v Wade their entire adult lives. For those raised in New York, Hawaii, Alaska, and Washington, they have known legalized abortion even longer.

I am so sad to say that when the pro-choice movement says that abortion is normal, they are not far from the truth. Because abortion is pervasive, many believe it is normal. With 25% of our women having an abortion by age 45, it feels normal.

But there is nothing normal about killing life inside of us.

Lord, I plead for not just those in their 20s who are the age group most likely to abort, but for all ages because we all need to re-learn what is truth.

Lord, I plead that You would embolden Christian women to mentor and teach all generations that Your love is meant for all people, not just men; that “being caught” pregnant is not a punishment from You but a blessing from You; that You are for women, not against them.

And, Father, teach us to forgive. Teach us to forgive men for not being responsible. Teach us to forgive men for all that we blame on them. Heal our bitterness and return oneness to our relationships.

In Jesus’ Name,

Cheryl

Doctors: 40 Days of Prayer Day 13

Dear Christian Sisters and Brothers,

Yesterday, Heidi led us in prayer for fathers, who are the number one influence on a woman’s “choice.”

Today, I am feeling inspired by Heidi to pray for doctors, who are the number two influence on a woman’s “choice.”

Dear Heavenly Father,

Hallowed be Your name. Lord, I am sorry that we do not rejoice in Your name often enough. I apologize that we use Your name in vain far more than we revere it. May we feel convicted when we say “Oh my God” and “Gosh” and “Jeez.” May we instead praise You in truth and love.

Father, we mourn over the tide of death over the medical profession. We mourn that doctors are recommending abortion rather than carrying to term.

We mourn that doctors are now even delaying decisions to save newborns until after they are born alive. I never thought I would hear a politician nor a doctor advocate for infanticide. I was certain that the Virginia Governor didn’t even realize what he said, but he knew exactly what he said—and he’s still in office.

I never thought this day would come. But I see now that You are revealing hearts. You are making it clear what abortion is. You are calling people to the truth, and more people are claiming to be pro-life. We praise You for revealing hearts and calling people back to You.

Even with more pro-life people in the United States, we continue to hear about medical professionals who do not do all in their power to support life of premature babies. And for that, we mourn.

Lord, we repent for our worship of money over You (Matt 6:24). We repent for putting fear of being sued over our trust in You (1 John 4:18). We repent for believing the lies of the Roe v Wade era rather than believing what we have learned in biology class and Sunday School.

Lord, wash away this tide of death and bring in a new era of life. Take away the old and replace it with the new (2 Cor 5:17-19). Bring pro-death doctors to repentance and wash them clean as snow (Psalm 51).

In Jesus’ powerful name,
Amen

In Christ,

Cheryl

First Do No Harm: Day 11 of 40 Days of Prayer

Dear Christian Sisters and Brothers,

Let us pray with Heidi that we become a culture that first does no harm.

Heavenly Father,

I am shaken by the things I see and hear, by the violence of the abortion procedure described by Dr. Anthony Levatino, a former abortionist, before Congress yesterday; by the video of the current abortionist calmly sifting through a bloody pan of tiny dismembered legs and arms, and a sweet little face, crushed horribly out of shape, while crooning about the life he has given back to the mother.

I am shaken by Medical professionals who have vowed to “first do no harm,” and yet wreak destruction and death every day; by mothers who deny their own children; by fathers who deny responsibility; by a legal culture that respects the life of unborn animals yet denies the life of unborn human beings; by a social culture that shouts “RIGHTS,” and “CHOICE,” and denies any and every RESPONSIBILITY.

I am shaken by the soothing rhetoric of for-profit entities who spread lies to assure women their procedure is safe and painless and will give them back their freedom–as long as they can front the money.

I am shaken by our nation of strong Christians who remain silent on this, the most important life and death emergency in our nation’s history. Where are we?

Lord God, Thank You for being a true father who loves without conditions, who protects with no strings attached, who fights for continued relationship with his children.

Thank You for valuing our lives and nourishing our growth and always giving us good gifts.

Bring this kind of reality to our culture, Father, we pray! Bring goodness, rightness, and true LIFE to our cultural mindset.

Thank You for Your awesome example and for the hope that You fill us with. We know you hear us and our prayers move Your mighty heart.

We look forward to bringing You more glory and to seeing the end of this shocking horror of abortion in the United States. We implore You, Heavenly Father.

In Jesus Mighty Name we pray!
Amen

In Christ,

Cheryl

Toddlers & Sea Turtles: 40 Days of Prayer Day 10

Dear Christian Sisters and Brothers,

Let us continue to pray with Heidi for the end of abortion for we know that we are far more precious to God than even sea turtles.

Lord God,

It seems that the abuse of young children produces just about the most outrage our society can muster. It breaks our hearts and fills us with deep righteous anger to see toddlers and preschoolers being yelled at, yanked around, or neglected.

It is especially egregious because they have no escape, no recourse. Those who should be protecting them are the ones inflicting the damage and the children don’t have the resources or understanding to seek help.

So why is it that our hearts break for the toddlers who have no one protecting them, but not for the tiny babies?

Lord God, Almighty, we want them to live. We want them to be safe and warm–without trauma, or pain. We want them ALL to live, healthy, sick, male, female, from rape and incest. Every life is created by You and created in Your image, which means it is a life worth living.

The horrifying videos and dispassionate explanations of the abortion procedure that I’ve seen are so horrific and violent that there aren’t words to encompass it. We treat our dogs better. We pass laws to protect turtle eggs.

How long, Oh Lord, will you stay your hand of judgement? How many more silenced screams and how many more dismembered babies tossed out with the garbage? We see it, and we are crumbling with the guilt of it.

Bring redemption and healing and a swift end to this ferocious beast that devours our children. We cannot bear it any longer.

Father, we pray this in Christ’s most Powerful Name,
Amen

In Christ,

Cheryl

40 Days of Prayer Day 9

Dear Christian Sisters,

Let us continue to pray with my friend Heidi for the end of legalized abortion here in the United States.

Heavenly Father,

We continue to be shocked by the brazen actions of Virginia lawmakers who submitted a bill allowing abortion up to the moment of birth for virtually any reason.

And by the words of the Virginia Governor who suggests that abortion AFTER birth is something to be discussed.

We praise you, Lord, for putting that bill to death for now, although with elections coming in November and several conservative seats up for grabs, we pray you’ll put that bill to death for good.

I remember the words of Joni Eareckson Tada:

“And gradually, though no one remembers exactly how it happened, the unthinkable becomes tolerable. And then acceptable. And then legal. And then applaudable.”

We have fallen for it and the conscience of an entire nation has become seared.

Lord, forgive us for sitting idly by! We repent of our inaction and beg you to ignite fire in us all. Raise us up together in a cloud of unstoppable righteous anger and let our voice be thunderous across the land.

This is not political. All of humanity is at stake, for the agenda doesn’t stop. First they sold us the “viability” bill of goods. Then they preached, “safe, legal, and rare,” and we swallowed it.

Then it was a woman’s ‘right’ to choose, and now we don’t even blink as they murder babies about to be born–and celebrate their victory.

The next step is ALREADY here…delicate rhetoric about keeping a newborn comfortable while the ‘discussion’ takes place. The line has been left way behind and life now only has value where it is convenient.

AND LORD, WE BOUGHT IT ALL, keeping quiet because we don’t think we have a voice or we’re not into politics. Some of us don’t even vote.

We look to you, Father, for help on what to do next. Don’t let this die away but move mightily for the babies. Give us a voice that screams the truth and won’t back down, so that the gates of hell cannot prevail.

We know only YOU can make the deep, deep changes that our country needs, but we also know You use your people to do Your work. We stand at the ready, Lord Jesus. Here we are, send us!

We praise you for we are fearfully and wonderfully made!

ALL OF US

In Jesus’ powerful Name we pray!
Amen

In Christ,

Cheryl

Praying for Post-Abortive Women: Day 7 of 40 Days of Prayer

Dear Christian Sisters,

My friend Heidi is so gracious to pray for women who have had abortions.

I, too, pray that post-abortive women will receive God’s healing not just because it’s the right thing to do but because healing will help end abortion.

Forty-five percent of women aborting in 2014 reported having had at least one prior abortion, according to the Guttmacher Institute (funded by Planned Parenthood).

I contend that it’s easier to have a second abortion because we’re already dead inside from the first abortion. I would’ve had another abortion if Russ hadn’t introduced me to Christ.

If women receive healing sooner, they may not have another abortion. Think about the reduction in numbers of abortions if we got women healed early.

At the end of the prayer, I’ll provide resources so that you know where to guide women who tell you they’ve had an abortion.

Gracious Lord Jesus,

Today I pray for the mothers. Many differing reasons propel a woman through the clinic doors. Some are ill informed, some don’t care, some feel they have no other options, some feel pressured. Today I’m remembering the women who have made the choice and then come to deeply regret it.

Father, I can imagine that there is no other heartache that strikes more to the core, no grief more crushing, no sorrow that shrouds more deeply, and no pain that stings longer.

We lift them up to you, Father. Hold them and hear them, forgive them, whisper your grace and tender love into their waiting ears, refresh their souls. There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God. Wash them in it, Lord. Give them peace.

How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news, who proclaim peace and salvation, who bring good tidings. Thank you, Lord God, for post-abortion counseling, available at many pregnancy centers.

Lord, thank you for these women who are trained to help women deal with the overwhelming flood of emotion that follows their decision, even if it’s years and years later. Bless them as they go about your work of healing, redeeming, and binding up.

Heavenly Father, we beg you again. Please change the laws across our nation. Restore our dignity. Rescue the babies and Give mothers the courage and means to say yes to life. We long to magnify your glory and we long to see you end this horrifying era of abortion in the United States.

We ask it in the name of Jesus,
Amen.

Post-abortion healing classes are offered through pregnancy centers and some churches using curriculum like Surrendering the Secret and Forgiven and Set Free. The Catholic Church offers Project Rachel.

Men who have pressured a woman, drove her to the clinic, or paid for the abortion need healing, too. Some pregnancy centers offer classes for them as well. A common curriculum is Healing a Father’s Heart.

Day 6 of 40 Days of Prayer

Dear Christian Sisters,

My apologies for not getting this prayer to you this morning. I have a sick boy in the house, so I’ve been busy making chicken soup and cuddling.

Let us continue to pray with my friend Heidi for a turn in the abortion-mindedness of our country.

Lord,

The media is shifting away from the abortion topic, even the conservative media. I guess it’s okay because they are news outlets and their job is to report the news, not lament tragedies.

I see a smidge less traffic on social media regarding this topic, too. People’s minds are moving on. There is an unending list of things to pray for, be passionate about, and bring to public awareness. The adversary is prowling around, after all, looking for someone to devour.

But I refuse to let this die. There are too many deaths already, and the battle rages on, day in and day out.

Kindle in us, Oh Lord, the energy and passion, the creativity and ability to speak and to move. Give us the battle plan and motivate your people.

Our strength comes from you, our hope is in you and all we ask is for mercy. For the babies.

And for the mothers, and the fathers, and the abortion providers, and for the general mindset of the average Joe, we ask for your mercy for them all. Turn the tide of our death and doom culture into one that cherishes the goodness of life, celebrates wisdom and good choices and finds joy in putting the needs of others first.

You, Lord God, specialize in redemption stories. Stories of miraculous healing and bringing hope and life out of the ashes.

We’re dwelling in the ashes and we desperately need regenerating. Humble our hearts, Lord, and cause your people to pray. We long to see the end of this bloody era of carnage. Lord, please.

In Christ,

Cheryl

40 Days of Prayer: Day 5

Dear Christian Sisters,

Let’s call out for healing! Please pray along with Heidi as one voice to the Lord.

Holy Lord God Almighty,

2,310 babies died brutal deaths in our country today. Today.

I found a website that counts them in real time.

All those particular fingerprints, maturing brains, fluttering eyelids, and thumbs in mouths will never see the light of day. Today, while we went about our normal Sunday, they have had their moments of panic and pain. They have been ripped and seared and murdered in levels of violence not seen elsewhere. It is mind numbing, and I find myself in another round of shock.

I just learned that NY is not alone in its quest to kill children, although NY seems alone in its desire to publicly celebrate the killing of children. The states with the most lenient abortion laws–up to birth– are Oregon, Vermont, Colorado, New Hampshire, the District of Columbia, Alaska, New Jersey, and New Mexico. If I feel sick to my stomach and emotionally overcome, Lord God, how much more offensive must it be to You.

We know you so well. We know You act in Love–You define yourself as Love. We’ve seen your answers to prayers. We know Your promises and Your goodness. We’ve experienced Your presence, and we live in the midst of Your mighty blessings. We also know your justice, graciously meted out on the cross for our sins, but also present in modern day culture. I can’t imagine a worse judgement than this slaughter of innocents.

If Your people who are called by your name will humble themselves and pray, if we seek your face, and turn from our wicked ways; then will You hear from heaven, and will forgive our sin, and will heal our land. Our land is in desperate need of healing, but we need humility, seeking, and turning just as badly. Cause Your people to humble themselves and pray, Oh Lord God, to make us more like You, and to bring an end to the era of abortion in the United States.

In the Mighty Name of Jesus we pray,
Amen

Let us also remember that for every baby killed, a woman’s vitality is drained away, and she probably doesn’t even know it. And then there are the men who pressured her or paid for the abortion or the moms and friends who supported her choice or the doctors who recommended aborting.

There are so many people involved, and they all need Christ. They all need healing.

Let us be Christ’s ambassadors, leading them to the healing faith of Jesus Christ. Can you imagine how loud a chorus of trumpets we’d be against the pro-choice movement? A trumpet choir of post-abortive women and men who regret their “choice” will not be silenced.

If you know someone who needs healing from an abortion, help them find a post-abortion healing class from your local crisis pregnancy center or church. Surrendering the Secret is the class that I took. Freedom on this side of healing is amazing!

In Christ,

Cheryl

40 Days of Prayer: Day 4

Dear Christian Sisters,

As we pray along with Heidi, we are also praying along with 40 Days for Life, which is the organization that loved Abby Johnson over the life line.

You can read (or listen to) Abby’s story in Unplanned,** which is also a movie that will soon be released on March 29. Put it on your calendar and go see it opening weekend!

Now let us continue to pray with Heidi for life!

Lord God Almighty,

We are rejoicing with Iowans who have scored BIG in this battle! Governor Kim Reynolds ratified a bill to make abortion after 6 weeks ILLEGAL, (except in the usual extreme cases). Since many women do not even know of their pregnancy by 6 weeks, You have just made Iowa a “sanctuary state” for the unborn. A safe haven for the innocent. We praise you, Father, for this refreshing victory.

Of course, lawsuits are planned and many are decrying the injustice of this action. The battle has likely just begun in Iowa and so we lift them up to You for safety, confidence, and bravery in the face of razor-sharp opposition.

But it isn’t enough just to limit abortion. We are begging You to make 2019 the complete end of the era of (legalized) abortion in the United States. It’s a big request, but You are bigger. It’s a huge paradigm shift, but you are capable of more. And of course, this one request is wrapped up in a whole lot more.

The end of the era requires a cultural transformation to value and celebrate LIFE at every level and in every form. We’re asking, Lord. We’re asking this massive thing because You are greater.

And we pray it in the precious Name of Jesus.
Amen

In Christ,

Cheryl
