40 Days of Prayer Day 9

Dear Christian Sisters,

Let us continue to pray with my friend Heidi for the end of legalized abortion here in the United States.

Heavenly Father,

We continue to be shocked by the brazen actions of Virginia lawmakers who submitted a bill allowing abortion up to the moment of birth for virtually any reason.

And by the words of the Virginia Governor who suggests that abortion AFTER birth is something to be discussed.

We praise you, Lord, for putting that bill to death for now, although with elections coming in November and several conservative seats up for grabs, we pray you’ll put that bill to death for good.

I remember the words of Joni Eareckson Tada:

“And gradually, though no one remembers exactly how it happened, the unthinkable becomes tolerable. And then acceptable. And then legal. And then applaudable.”

We have fallen for it and the conscience of an entire nation has become seared.

Lord, forgive us for sitting idly by! We repent of our inaction and beg you to ignite fire in us all. Raise us up together in a cloud of unstoppable righteous anger and let our voice be thunderous across the land.

This is not political. All of humanity is at stake, for the agenda doesn’t stop. First they sold us the “viability” bill of goods. Then they preached, “safe, legal, and rare,” and we swallowed it.

Then it was a woman’s ‘right’ to choose, and now we don’t even blink as they murder babies about to be born–and celebrate their victory.

The next step is ALREADY here…delicate rhetoric about keeping a newborn comfortable while the ‘discussion’ takes place. The line has been left way behind and life now only has value where it is convenient.

AND LORD, WE BOUGHT IT ALL, keeping quiet because we don’t think we have a voice or we’re not into politics. Some of us don’t even vote.

We look to you, Father, for help on what to do next. Don’t let this die away but move mightily for the babies. Give us a voice that screams the truth and won’t back down, so that the gates of hell cannot prevail.

We know only YOU can make the deep, deep changes that our country needs, but we also know You use your people to do Your work. We stand at the ready, Lord Jesus. Here we are, send us!

We praise you for we are fearfully and wonderfully made!

ALL OF US

In Jesus’ powerful Name we pray!
Amen

In Christ,

Cheryl

Prepare Us, O Lord: Day 8 of 40 Days of Prayer

Dear Christian Sisters,

Heidi’s prayer for today addresses one of the arguments from pro-choicers—what are Christians doing about the orphans today and do they really think they can take care of all the children once Roe v Wade and state laws are overturned?

Although I hate to talk politics, Heidi’s prayer addresses one of the biggest perceptions of the pro-life party: Republicans want fewer government programs.

I am neither Republican nor Democrat, and I do not want to get into a political debate because the answer to the abortion crisis is not in politics.

What I do want to do is point out the perception of the pro-choice movement. From their perspective, pro-life = Republican = ReTested_3DLeft-Facing-400Evangelical. We all know that is not 100% true, and I would argue that it shouldn’t be true. However, that is the perception that we need to address.

I can already foresee that I’m making you uncomfortable, so later today I will send you the introduction to my first book in the Faces of Abortion Series. The book will be out in April, but I will be happy to share the short introduction with you today.

In the meantime, let us pray with Heidi about how we are going to align our works with our beliefs.

Heavenly Father,

This morning I woke up considering what life will be like when You move as mightily as we’ve been asking. What will happen when abortion is outlawed once and for all?

Over 2,000 babies are killed every day, so that means we’ll have over 2,000 babies, PER DAY, who need loving homes. Some of those mothers will keep and rear their children–and they will need lots of emotional and material support.

A majority will depend on willing adoptive parents. Many of those babies will have physical and mental disabilities. There will be serious needs.

Of course, there will be desperate women who would seek an illegal abortion, and we pray, Father, that you would protect them and calm them and give them good information and honest perspective.

Lord God, as we pray fervently for the end to this abortion era and seek to promote and cultivate an attitude of life, hope, and contentment in our culture, help us to be ready!

Work in our hearts to back up our words with deeds and to use our words to spur each other on to love and good deeds.

Prepare the adoption agencies for the flood of new life. Convict and prepare the hearts of those who can parent these children, especially the ones with extra needs.

Give us opportunity to bless and comfort the desperate ones and help us to reach out in real support of mothers who chose to keep their own children. They will need us.

We all need to be ready to make real sacrifices to fully honor the pro-life mindset and ultimately to honor You, the Glorious Author of Every Life.

All Honor and Glory be Yours, Lord God Almighty.

In Jesus’ Name,
Amen

In Christ,

Cheryl

Day 6 of 40 Days of Prayer

Dear Christian Sisters,

My apologies for not getting this prayer to you this morning. I have a sick boy in the house, so I’ve been busy making chicken soup and cuddling.

Let us continue to pray with my friend Heidi for a turn in the abortion-mindedness of our country.

Lord,

The media is shifting away from the abortion topic, even the conservative media. I guess it’s okay because they are news outlets and their job is to report the news, not lament tragedies.

I see a smidge less traffic on social media regarding this topic, too. People’s minds are moving on. There is an unending list of things to pray for, be passionate about, and bring to public awareness. The adversary is prowling around, after all, looking for someone to devour.

But I refuse to let this die. There are too many deaths already, and the battle rages on, day in and day out.

Kindle in us, Oh Lord, the energy and passion, the creativity and ability to speak and to move. Give us the battle plan and motivate your people.

Our strength comes from you, our hope is in you and all we ask is for mercy. For the babies.

And for the mothers, and the fathers, and the abortion providers, and for the general mindset of the average Joe, we ask for your mercy for them all. Turn the tide of our death and doom culture into one that cherishes the goodness of life, celebrates wisdom and good choices and finds joy in putting the needs of others first.

You, Lord God, specialize in redemption stories. Stories of miraculous healing and bringing hope and life out of the ashes.

We’re dwelling in the ashes and we desperately need regenerating. Humble our hearts, Lord, and cause your people to pray. We long to see the end of this bloody era of carnage. Lord, please.

In Christ,

Cheryl

40 Days of Prayer: Day 4

Dear Christian Sisters,

As we pray along with Heidi, we are also praying along with 40 Days for Life, which is the organization that loved Abby Johnson over the life line.

You can read (or listen to) Abby’s story in Unplanned,** which is also a movie that will soon be released on March 29. Put it on your calendar and go see it opening weekend!

Now let us continue to pray with Heidi for life!

Lord God Almighty,

We are rejoicing with Iowans who have scored BIG in this battle! Governor Kim Reynolds ratified a bill to make abortion after 6 weeks ILLEGAL, (except in the usual extreme cases). Since many women do not even know of their pregnancy by 6 weeks, You have just made Iowa a “sanctuary state” for the unborn. A safe haven for the innocent. We praise you, Father, for this refreshing victory.

Of course, lawsuits are planned and many are decrying the injustice of this action. The battle has likely just begun in Iowa and so we lift them up to You for safety, confidence, and bravery in the face of razor-sharp opposition.

But it isn’t enough just to limit abortion. We are begging You to make 2019 the complete end of the era of (legalized) abortion in the United States. It’s a big request, but You are bigger. It’s a huge paradigm shift, but you are capable of more. And of course, this one request is wrapped up in a whole lot more.

The end of the era requires a cultural transformation to value and celebrate LIFE at every level and in every form. We’re asking, Lord. We’re asking this massive thing because You are greater.

And we pray it in the precious Name of Jesus.
Amen

In Christ,

Cheryl

40 Days of Prayer: Day 1

Dear Christian Sisters,

My friend Heidi is a prayer warrior. Her response to New York’s late-term abortion legislation and all the abortion news since then has been to pray. May we all be like her.

With her permission, I am sharing her prayers with you so that we may pray as one voice.

Lord Almighty,

The wind has been knocked out of us. The reality of the evil that has swept over and bound up this country for far too long is raw and real this day. The agenda moves forward. We watch agape as pink lights celebrate, CELEBRATE, the passage of a law allowing more of our babies to be butchered. And other states are contemplating similar measures. What is to be done?

While the snake slithers and laughs its bitter laugh, we come boldly to YOU, heavenly Father, grieving the terrified, agonized babies who die every day. How have we let this happen? How could we close our eyes and cover our ears? How could we let it fade into the background?

Our hands are bloody. Our sin is deep. But you, O Lord, you know. There is none like you. We need forgiveness and healing and a new direction. We need so much! Help us to pray. Hear us and forgive us. Show us the way forward, step by step.

We pray these things in the powerful name of Jesus, Amen.

In Christ,

Cheryl

National Day of Mourning

Dear Christian Sisters,

Today is #nationaldayofmourning over NY and other legislation for late-term abortions over the last month.

Let us mourn for our inaction that we would allow murder to be legal for 46 years throughout the USA and 49 years in NY.

Let us mourn for not valuing the sanctity of sex, your beautiful design for sex in marriage between one man and one woman.

Let us mourn that we have allowed others to teach about sex and reproductive rights when we should be teaching in The Church and in our homes.

We allowed this! Lord, we repent!

In Christ,

Cheryl

Do Not Give Up Speaking Truth

Dear Christian Sisters,

In the last two weeks of controversy over late-term abortions, I have received two kinds of private messages:

  1. Please help me with online conversations that I am having with pro-choice advocates. I don’t understand how they think, but you do.
  2. I had an abortion, too. I regret it, and I am heartbroken over all the news about legislation.

Today, I’ll respond to the first point. Next time, I’ll respond to the second.

Let me start by encouraging you to not grow weary.

Let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary (Galatians 6:9).

Responding to pro-choice comments is often exhausting and disturbing to our souls. I had one exchange in which the pro-choice advocate used the F-word and told me where to go in just about every one of her comments.

I responded with truth and kind words, and politely asked for a conversation rather than vulgarity. Eventually, she gave up and left the conversation. I was saddened by her inability to have a reasoned conversation.

However, I intentionally left seeds for her to remember my kindness and my points. I pray that the Lord will grow those seeds into love for Him and the life He creates.

Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good (Romans 12:21).

Another conversation I had ended with the pro-choice advocate saying, “It’s literally a parasite until it can live on its own.” I was so sad to read that.

Then I remembered that, like I said in yesterday’s post, hearts are being revealed. We must pray for our adversaries.

“But I say to you who hear, love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you” (Luke 6:27-28).

So stay in the conversation, and continue speaking the truth in love. Here are some truths to share:

Typical Comments Followed by Truthful Responses

First, I assume that the woman with whom I’m conversing has had an abortion. The more she defends abortion, the more likely she has had one, so I try to mention post-abortion healing classes often.

That used to be me. When I was pro-choice, I needed to justify what I had done.

These women are in pain. They are bitter. They are often bitter at Christians, some justifiably and some not.

Show them the love of Christ by sharing love for women. Keep the emphasis on women and the truth of the abortion industry. You are not going to convince them that the pre-born have rights, so instead focus on how harmful abortion is to women.

The pro-choice movement talks about women, so we should, too. Meet them where they are.

“My Body. My Choice” or “Not Your Body. Not Your Choice”

The pre-born are not your body but his or her own.

I avoid using the words “baby” and “mother” because those words trigger the pro-choice into defending themselves even more.

“Reproductive Rights”

It’s not a right or a choice. It’s a destructive decision for both the woman and the pre-born. No matter what happens to the pre-born, he or she will not be forgotten by the woman. There’s a reason post-abortion healing classes exist.

“Christians Should Be _______________ Instead of Taking Away Women’s Rights”

Christians are helping women in crisis and adopting, but that isn’t exciting news so no one hears about it. There’s no doubt that we can and should be doing more. But as a Christian, I will not lie to women by letting them think that abortion is no big deal. It is a big deal. There are emotional and spiritual consequences for abortion. Post-abortion healing classes exist for a reason.

We should be just as concerned about the women who abort because the psychological effects of abortion are significant, hidden, and rarely discussed. Freedom is not found in abortion. Post-abortion healing classes are available at most pregnancy centers and some churches.

BTW, as Christians, we should be supporting those who are doing the hard work of helping women in crisis. Donate to your local pregnancy center or to Care-Net, who supports pregnancy centers throughout the United States.

“When Making Decisions for Laws, Never Use Emotion”

Only those who choose death are emotionless. That’s what abortion does. Makes people emotionless.

I used to call myself the walking dead before there was a TV show by that name. I didn’t regret my abortion for 14 years. For 14 years, I said what those women said. It wasn’t until I was healed that I could see just how dead I had been.

“PP Provides Women’s Healthcare, Not Just Abortions”

True, but Leana Wen, President of Planned Parenthood, has outright said their business is abortion far more than other health services.

According to former PP employee Abby Johnson, 50% of PP’s income is abortion and 50% government funding. (See Steven Crowder’s interview with Abby.)

If you want to see how abortion clinics operate, watch “Unplanned,” due out March 29, 2019. Abortion workers who got an early viewing of the movie agree that it’s an accurate portrayal.

Also, see “Gosnell,” which is about a private abortion clinic, due out on DVD soon. All women should be horrified by the uncleanliness of that clinic and by the inaction by the government.

If you want to see how abortion clinics are doing on their health inspections, go to Check My Clinic. This should be of concern to EVERY woman, regardless of which side of the issue you are on.

In Christ,

Cheryl

Hearts are Being Revealed

Dear Christian Sisters,

It’s only been two weeks since the 46th Roe v Wade anniversary, the day that New York passed its late-term abortion legislation, cheered, and lit up New York City in Planned Parenthood’s pink (see note below).

The hearts of the NY legislators and governor were revealed that day.

Then we heard from Delegate Kathy Tran of Virginia introduce legislation that would make it easier to get a late-term abortion in Virginia, saying that abortion could happen all the way up to birth.

The Virginia Delegate’s heart was revealed that day.

After that, we heard Virginia Governor Ralph Northam on the Ask the Governor radio show explain “exactly what would happen” in a third trimester abortion, but what he described was infanticide.

The Virginia Governor’s heart was revealed that day.

Let us rejoice that the truth is coming out while simultaneously praying for God’s mercy. Please be in prayer for everyone you hear about in the news, that they would know the personal, loving God who changes hearts and loves life.

In Christ,

Cheryl

Note:

When we see pink, we think of breast cancer. I did a little searching and found that Susan G. Komen started using pink in 1991. Around the same time, I remember protesting with PP (see below), and everyone there had pink arm bands. I don’t know which organization started first, but I can say that PP has been using pink for a long time.

You may be shocked that I protested with PP, that I was on their side. Yes, I used to be pro-choice. Remember that I had an abortion when I was 17, and until I had a personal relationship with Christ, I defended my decision by supporting PP, even though I did not have an abortion at one of their clinics.

Watch Your Words as You Comment on the New York Late-Term Abortion Legislation

Remember how Jesus talked to the Woman at the Well?

Dear Christian Sisters,

The news that New York has legalized late-term abortions once again has everyone in an uproar. I just ask that you comment on articles with love and logic.

I wasn’t feeling well yesterday, so I sat on my couch and read all sorts of comments on news posts while my friends sent me private messages asking me for advice on how to respond to people.

I can’t help but get involved in the conversation because I have so much to say about what abortion does to women, and it didn’t take long for someone who disagrees with me to comment in return.

Except that she didn’t just comment—she yelled and swore. I did not. I responded with logical explanations.

Her comments devolved into twisting my words. I politely pointed out what I really said and pointed her back to my original comment. I also asked that she talk to me without swear words and without telling me where to go.

When she couldn’t argue with me anymore, she left the conversation.

That’s what I want to encourage you to do. Stay in the conversation but do so gracefully and with love. My words will stay with that woman. My words were seeds. I pray that the Lord will water and grow those seeds into love for the Savior.

Our goal is to love others over the life line.

I was loved over the life line by my husband Russ and by Christ, as you’ll soon read in my first book, ReTested.

Abby Johnson, author of the book and soon-to-be-released movie “Unplanned,” was loved over the life line by her husband, parents, and the 40 Days for Life. It can be done, and we should be the ones doing it.

Remember how Jesus talked to the Woman at the Well? He spoke truth to her, and she didn’t recoil but instead was honored as one of the first to be told directly that He is the Christ.

As Christians, we are called to be Christ followers. That means doing like He did. Let us love them so much that they want to become pro-life Christians.

In Christ,

Cheryl
